Observe the job before designing the screen
A technician working outdoors, a supervisor moving between sites and a dispatcher at a desk have different needs. Watch how they capture information today. Gloves, bright sunlight, intermittent coverage and shared devices can all change what a good interface looks like.
Reduce typing and repeat work
Use sensible defaults, clear choices and reusable job details. Where photographs or signatures are necessary, explain why they are collected and how they will be stored. A faster form helps only if the information reaches the people who need it.
Make status unmistakable
Users should know whether a task is saved locally, submitted or awaiting approval. A clear audit trail can reduce calls between field staff and head office. It also helps supervisors distinguish delayed synchronisation from unfinished work.
Pilot with a representative team
Do not test only with the most enthusiastic users in the best-connected office. Include a difficult route, a busy supervisor and a new employee. Their feedback will expose friction that polished demonstrations miss.
